King Charles III and Queen Camilla have marked the first anniversary of Elizabeth II's death with a prayer service near Balmoral. They were at Crathie Kirk, while the Duke of Sussex visited St George's Chapel in Windsor - the late queen's final resting place. The Prince and Princess of Wales attended a private service at St Davids Cathedral in Pembrokeshire. The King also released a message and a favourite photograph of the late queen. The photograph chosen by the King shows the queen at an official portrait sitting in 1968 aged 42. Elizabeth II died aged 96 at Balmoral Castle in Aberdeenshire on 8 September last year, just months after her Platinum Jubilee which marked 70 years on the throne. The US Open Tennis Championships, commonly called the US Open, is a hardcourt tennis tournament held annually in Queens, New York. Since 1987, the US Open has been chronologically the fourth and final Grand Slam tournament of the year, except for 2020. The other three, in chronological order, are the Australian Open, French Open and Wimbledon. The US Open starts on the last Monday of August and continues for two weeks, with the middle weekend coinciding with the US Labor Day holiday. The tournament is one of the oldest tennis championships in the world, originally known as the U.S. National Championship, for which men's singles and men's doubles were first played in August 1881. Five people have been killed in the South African city of Cape Town as a strike by minibus taxi drivers that began last week turned violent, authorities said on Tuesday. The South African National Taxi Council (SANTACO) announced a one-week provincial shutdown last Thursday after failing to resolve various issues with the local government in Cape Town. The grievances arose after a new municipal law gave local authorities the power to impound vehicles for violations such as driving without a licence or registration plates. Sporadic violence erupted in different parts of the city after police began impounding vehicles last week, as angry protesters torched buses and cars, and pelted the police with stones.
